GET A KNIFE, GET A DOG, BUT GET RID OF GUNS

GET A KNIFE, GET A DOG, BUT GET RID OF GUNS

Molly Ivins

With the current volatile environment in many countries across the globe, the topic of this illustration is very important.

The author immediately bring the points that she is not Anti-gun, she is just pro knife. I myself am not anti-gun, I just think that guns are too easily accessible and they are used to do more bad than good. You would think that would encourage the bigger parties to decrease the availability, but you know... capitalism.

Additionally, I agree with the points that the speaker makes. If persons are so insistent upon committing crimes, the use of a knife will promote increased physical fitness as the knife fight is likely to involve a chase and reduce fatalities.

The speaker moves on to talk about the careless usage of vehicles. I agree that there are persons who do not need to have a license, but I disagree that it is to the point where cars need to be outlawed. As she speaks about the correlation between the way cars are handled and the way guns are handled, I cannot help but to agree. These rules are in place to most countries now but I think it’s harder to control and track guns. Many persons do not have guns that they obtained legally. Furthermore, mental states change. A person can buy something and be one personality type and 6 months later be a completely different personality type due to a uncovered trigger.

“Guns do kill. Unlike cars, that is all they do.” It’s an incredible true statement. I never thought about it but that is what the purpose of a gun is to do. Kill. There are so many alternatives that persons can use to protect themselves, why should guns be so accessible when they have proven to cause so much havoc. You can use a knife, get a pet, your fist to defend yourself from bystanders. Leave the guns to the militia as the second amendment states.
